God disdains not to use the similitude of things, lowest as well as highest. Those who believe know that it is truth from their Lord; but those who reject Faith say: "What means God by this similitude?" By it He causes many to stray, and many He leads into the right path; but He causes not to stray, except those who forsake the path, We said: "O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in the Garden; and eat of the bountiful things therein as where and when you will; but approach not this tree, or you run into harm and transgression." Remember you slew a man and fell into a dispute among yourselves as to the crime: But God was to bring forth what you did hide. And remember We took your covenant and We raised above you the towering height of Mount Sinai: Saying: "Hold firmly to what We have given you, and hearken to the Law.": They said: " We hear, and we disobey.": And they had to drink into their hearts of the taint of the calf because of their Faithlessness. Say: "Vile indeed are the behests of your Faith if you have any faith!" Those who conceal God's revelations in the Book, and purchase for them a miserable profit, they swallow into themselves nothing but Fire; God will not address them on the Day of Resurrection. Nor purify them: Grievous will be their penalty. O you who believe! Enter into Islam whole-heartedly; and follow not the footsteps of the evil one; for he is to you an avowed enemy. Their bearings on this life and the Hereafter. They ask you concerning orphans. Say: "The best thing to do is what is for their good; if you mix their affairs with yours, they are your brethren; but God knows the man who means mischief from the man who means good. And if God had wished, He could have put you into difficulties: He is indeed Exalted in Power, Wise." God is the Protector of those who have faith: From the depths of darkness He will lead them forth into light. Of those who reject faith the patrons are the evil ones: From light they will lead them forth into the depths of darkness. They will be companions of the fire, to dwell therein For ever. On no soul does God Place a burden greater than it can bear, it gets every good that it earns, and it suffers every ill that it earns. Pray: "Our Lord! Condemn us not if we forget or fall into error; Our Lord! Lay not on us a burden Like that which You did lay on those before us; Our Lord! Lay not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Blot out our sins, and grant us forgiveness. Have mercy on us. You are our Protector; Help us against those who stand against faith." "And appoint him an apostle to the Children of Israel, with this message: "`I have come to you, with a Sign from your Lord, in that I make for you out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, and breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by God's leave: And I heal those born blind, and the lepers, and I quicken the dead, by God's leave; and I declare to you what you eat, and what you store in your houses. Surely therein is a Sign for you if you did believe; Be not like those who are divided among themselves and fall into disputations after receiving Clear Signs: For them is a dreadful penalty, O you who believe! Take not into your intimacy those outside your ranks: They will not fail to corrupt you. They only desire your ruin: Rank hatred has already appeared from their mouths: What their hearts conceal is far worse. We have made plain to you the Signs, if you have wisdom. So lose not heart, nor fall into despair: For you must gain mastery if you are true in Faith. Soon will We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with God, for which He had sent no authority: Their abode will be the Fire: And evil is the home of the wrong-doers! Let not those grieve you who rush headlong into Unbelief: Not the least harm will they do to God. God's plan is that He will give them no portion in the Hereafter, but a severe punishment. And their Lord has accepted of them, and answered them: "Never will I suffer to be lost the work of any of you, be he male or female: You are members, one of another: Those who have left their homes, or been driven out therefrom, or suffered harm in My Cause, or fought or been slain, verily, I will blot out from them their iniquities, and admit them into Gardens with rivers flowing beneath, a reward from the presence of God, and from His presence is the best of rewards." Those who unjustly eat up the property of orphans, eat up a Fire into their own bodies: They will soon be enduring a Blazing Fire! If any of you have not the means wherewith to wed free believing women, they may wed believing girls from among those whom your right hands possess: And God has full knowledge about your faith. You are one from another: Wed them with the leave of their owners, and give them their dowers, according to what is reasonable: They should be chaste, not lustful, nor taking paramours: When they are taken in wedlock, if they fall into shame, their punishment is half that for free women. This permission is for those among you who fear sin; but it is better for you that you practise self-restraint. And God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. If any do that in rancor and injustice, soon will We cast them into the Fire: And easy it is for God. Those who reject our Signs, We will soon cast into the Fire: As often as their skins are roasted through, We will change them for fresh skins, that they may taste the penalty: For God is Exalted in Power, Wise. When there comes to them some matter touching Public safety or fear, they divulge it. If they had only referred it to the Messenger, or to those charged with authority among them, the proper investigators would have Tested it from them direct. Were it not for the Grace and Mercy of God unto you, all but a few of you would have fallen into the clutches of Satan. Why should you be divided into two parties about the Hypocrites? God has upset them for their evil deeds. Would you guide those whom God has thrown out of the Way? For those whom God has thrown out of the Way, never will you find the Way. Except for those who repent before they fall into your power: In that case, know that God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. O Messenger, let not those grieve you, who race each other into unbelief: whether it be among those who say "We believe" with their lips but whose hearts have no faith; or it be among the Jews. men who will listen to any lie, will listen even to others who have never so much as come to you. They change the words from their right times and places: They say, "If you are given this, take it, but if not, beware!" If any one's trial is intended by God, you have no authority in the least for him against God. For such - it is not God's will to purify their hearts. For them there is disgrace in this world, and in the Hereafter a heavy punishment. And those who believe will say: "Are these the men who swore their strongest oaths by God, that they were with you?" All that they do will be in vain, and they will fall into nothing but ruin. Say: "Will I point out to you something much worse than this, as judged by the treatment it received from God, those who incurred the curse of God and His wrath, those of whom some He transformed into apes and swine, those who worshipped evil; these are many times worse in rank, and far more astray from the even path!" Then will God say: "O Jesus, the Son of Mary! Recount My favor to you and to your mother. Behold! I strengthened you with the Holy Spirit, so that you did speak to the people in childhood and in maturity. Behold! I taught you the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel and behold! you make out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, by My leave, and you breathe into it and it becomes a bird by My leave, and you heal those born blind, and the lepers, by My leave. And behold! You bring forth the dead by My leave. And behold! I did restrain the Children of Israel from violence to you when you did show them the clear Signs, and the unbelievers among them said: `This is nothing but evident magic.´ Say: "Will we indeed call on others besides God, things that can do us neither good nor harm. And turn on our heels after receiving guidance from God. - like one whom the evil ones have made into a fool, wandering bewildered through the earth, his friends calling, come to us´, vainly guiding him to the path." Say: "God's guidance is the only guidance, and we have been directed to submit ourselves to the Lord of the Worlds; No just estimate of God do they make when they say: "Nothing does God send down to man by way of revelation" Say: "Who then sent down the Book which Moses brought? A light and guidance to man: But you make it into separate sheets for show, while you conceal much of its contents: Therein were you taught that which you knew not - neither you nor your fathers." Say: "God sent it down.": Then leave them to plunge in vain discourse and trifling. As for those who divide their religion and break up into sects, you have no part in them in the least: Their affair is with God. He will in the end tell them the truth of all that they did. "O Adam! dwell you and your wife in the Garden, and enjoy its good things as you wish: But approach not this tree, or you run into harm and transgression." He will say: "Enter you in the company of the peoples who passed away before you - men and Jinns, - into the Fire." Every time a new people enters, it curses its sister-people that went before, until they follow each other, all into the Fire. Says the last about the first: "Our Lord! It is these that misled us: So give them a double penalty in the Fire." He will say: "Doubled for all.": But this you do not understand. Then We changed their suffering into prosperity, until they grew and multiplied, and began to say: "Our fathers too were touched by suffering and affluence"... Behold! We called them to account of a sudden, while they realized not their peril. Said Moses: "Throw you first." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: For they showed a great feat of magic. We put it into Moses's mind by inspiration: "Throw now your rod!":and behold! It swallows up straight away all the falsehoods which they fake! And Moses chose seventy of his people for Our place of meeting: When they were seized with violent quaking, he prayed: "O my Lord! If it had been Your will You could have destroyed, long before, both them and me: Would You destroy us for the deeds of the foolish ones among us? This is no more than Your trial: By it You cause whom You will to stray, and You lead whom You will into the right path. You are our Protector: So forgive us and give us Your mercy; for You are the best of those who forgive. We divided them into twelve tribes or nations. We directed Moses by inspiration, when his thirsty people asked him for water: "Strike the rock with your staff!": Out of it there gushed forth twelve springs: Each group knew its own place for water. We gave them the shade of clouds, and sent down to them manna and quails, saying: "Eat of the good things We have provided for you.": but they rebelled; to Us they did no harm, but they harmed their own souls. We broke them up into sections on this earth. There are among them some that are the righteous, and some that are the opposite. We have tried them with both prosperity and adversity: In order that they might turn to us. But their brethren the evil ones plunge them deeper into error, and never relax their efforts. Remember your Lord inspired the angels with the message: "I am with you: Give firmness to the Believers: I will instill terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: Smite you above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them." In order that God may separate the impure from the pure, put the impure, one on another, heap them together, and cast them into Hell. They will be the ones to have lost. And obey God and His Messenger, and fall into no disputes, lest you lose heart and your power depart; and be patient and persevering: For God is with those who patiently persevere: Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into the hearts of the enemies, of God and your enemies, and others besides, whom you may not know, but whom God does know. Whatever you will spend in the cause of God, will be repaid unto you, and you will not be treated unjustly. Those who believed, and adopted exile, and fought for the Faith, with their property and their persons, in the cause of God, as well as those who gave them asylum and aid, these are all friends and protectors, one of another. As to those who believed but came not into exile, you owe no duty of protection to them until they come into exile; but if they seek your aid in religion, it is your duty to help them, except against a people with whom you have a treaty of mutual alliance. And remember God sees all that you do. But the treaties are not dissolved with those Pagans with whom you have entered into alliance and who have not subsequently failed you in anything, nor aided any one against you. So fulfill your engagements with them to the end of their term: For God loves the righteous. Among them is many a man who says: "Grant me exemption and draw me not into trial." Have they not fallen into trial already? And indeed Hell surrounds the Unbelievers on all sides. So He has put as a consequence hypocrisy into their hearts, to last till the Day, whereon they will meet Him: Because they broke their covenant with God, and because they lied again and again. Which then is best? - he that lays his foundation on piety to God and His good pleasure? - or he that lays his foundation on an undermined sand-cliff ready to crumble to pieces? And it does crumble to pieces with him, into the fire of Hell. And God guides not people that do wrong. We inspired Moses and his brother with this Message: "Provide dwellings for your people in Egypt, make your dwellings into places of worship, and establish regular prayers: And give glad tidings to those who believe!" We settled the Children of Israel in a beautiful dwelling-place, and provided for them sustenance of the best: It was after knowledge had been granted to them, that they fell into schisms. Verily God will judge between them as to the schisms among them, on the Day of Judgment. If We give man a taste of Mercy from Ourselves, and then withdraw it from him, behold! he is in despair and falls into blasphemy. But if We give him a taste of Our favors after adversity has touched him, he is sure to say, "All evil has departed from me.": Behold! He falls into exultation and pride. He will go before his people on the Day of Judgment, and lead them into the Fire as cattle are led to water: But woeful indeed will be the place to which they are led! So they did take him away, and they all agreed to throw him down to the bottom of the well: And We put into his heart this Message: `Of a surety you will one day tell them the truth of this their affair while they know you not´ Then there came a caravan of travellers: They sent their water-carrier for water, and he let down his bucket into the well... He said: "Ah there! Good news! Here is a fine young man!" So they concealed him as a treasure! But God knows well all that they do! She said: "There before you is the man about whom you did blame me! I did seek to seduce him from his true self but he did firmly save himself guiltless!... And now, if he does not my bidding, he will certainly be cast into prison, and what is more be of the company of the vilest!" Now with him there came into the prison two young men. Said one of them: "I see myself in a dream pressing wine." Said the other: "I see myself in a dream carrying bread on my head, and birds are eating, thereof." "Tell us" they said "The truth and meaning thereof: For we see you are one that does good to all." And Joseph told his servants to put their stock-in-trade with which they had bartered into their saddle-bags, so they should know it only when they returned to their people, in order that they might come back. Now when they came into Joseph's presence, he received his full brother to stay with him. He said to him: "Behold! I am your own brother; so grieve not at Any of their doings." At length when he had furnished them forth with provisions suitable for them, he put the drinking cup into his brother's saddle-bag. Then shouted out a crier: "O you in the caravan! Behold! You are thieves, without doubt!" And he turned away from them, and said: "How great is my grief for Joseph!" And his eyes became white with sorrow, and he fell into silent melancholy. Then, when they came back into Joseph's presence they said: "O exalted one! Distress has seized us and our family: We have now brought but scanty capital: So pay us full measure, we pray you, and treat it as charity to us: For God does reward the charitable." Respite will be granted until, when the apostles give up hope of their people and come to think that they were treated as liars, there reaches them Our help, and those whom We will are delivered into safety. But never will be warded off our punishment from those who are in sin. A. L. R. A Book which We have revealed unto you, in order that you might lead mankind out of the depths of darkness into light - by the leave of their Lord - to the Way of Him the Exalted in power, worthy of all praise!- We sent Moses with Our signs and the command. "Bring out your people from the depths of darkness into light, and teach them to remember the Days of God." Verily in this there are Signs for such as are firmly patient and constant. grateful and appreciative. Have you not turned your vision to those who have changed the favor of God, into blasphemy and caused their people to descend to the House of Perdition? Into Hell? They will burn therein, an evil place to stay in! Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape; Behold! Your Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man, from sounding clay from mud moulded into shape; "When I have fashioned him in due proportion and breathed into him of My Spirit, fall you down in obeisance unto him." Iblis said: "I am not one to prostrate myself to man, whom You did create from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape." Of just such wrath as We sent down on those who divided Scripture into arbitrary parts, So also on such as have made Qur'an into shreds as they please. They attribute to God what they hate for themselves, and their tongues assert the falsehood that all good things are for themselves: Without doubt for them is the Fire, and they will be the first to be hastened on into it! Fulfill the Covenant of God when you have entered into it, and break not your oaths after you have confirmed them; indeed you have made God your surety; for God knows all that you do. And be not like a woman who breaks into untwisted strands the yarn which she has spun, after it has become strong. Nor take your oaths to practise deception between yourselves, lest one party should be more numerous than another: For God will test you by this; and on the Day of Judgment He will certainly make clear to you the truth of that wherein you disagree. If you did well, you did well for yourselves; if you did evil, you did it against yourselves. So when the second of the warnings came to pass, We permitted your enemies to disfigure your faces, and to enter your Temple as they had entered it before, and to visit with destruction all that fell into their power. Come not nigh to the orphan's property except to improve it, until he attains the age of full strength; and fulfill every engagement, for every engagement will be enquired into on the Day of Reckoning. And pursue not that of which you have no knowledge; for every act of hearing, or of seeing or of feeling in the heart will be enquired into on the Day of Reckoning. These are among the precepts of wisdom, which your Lord has revealed to you. Take not, with God, another object of worship, lest you should be thrown into Hell, blameworthy and rejected. And We put coverings over their hearts and minds lest they should understand the Qur'an, and deafness into their ears: when you do commemorate your Lord and Him alone in the Qur'an, they turn on their backs, fleeing from the Truth. Behold! We told you that your Lord does encompass mankind round about: We granted the vision which We showed you, but as a trial for men, as also the Cursed Tree mentioned in the Qur'an: We put terror and warning into them, but it only increases their inordinate transgression! "Or you have a house adorned with gold, or you mount a ladder right into the skies. No, we will not even believe in your mounting until you send down to us a book that we could read." Say: "Glory to my Lord! Am I anything but a man, an apostle?" It is a Qur'an which We have divided into parts from time to time, in order that you might recite it to men at intervals: We have revealed it by stages. Some say they were three, the dog being the fourth among them; others say they were five, the dog being the sixth, doubtfully guessing at the unknown; yet others say they were seven, the dog being the eighth. Say you: "My Lord knows best their number; It is but few that know their real case." Enter not, therefore, into controversies concerning them, except on a matter that is clear, nor consult any of them about the affair of the Sleepers. He went into his garden in a state of mind unjust to his soul: He said, "I deem not that this will ever perish, His companion said to him, in the course of the argument with him: "Do you deny Him Who created you out of dust, then out of a sperm-drop, then fashioned you into a man? "Why did you not, as you went into your garden, say: `God's will be done! There is no power but with God.´ If you do see me less than you in wealth and sons, He said: "This is a mercy from my Lord: But when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will make it into dust; and the promise of my Lord is true." "So eat and drink and cool your eye, and if you do see any man, say, `I have vowed a fast to God Most Gracious, and this day will I enter into not talk with any human being´" "`Throw the child into the chest, and throw the chest into the river: The river will cast him up on the bank, and he will be taken up by one who is an enemy to Me and an enemy to him´: But I cast the garment of love over you from Me: And this in order that you may be reared under Mine eye. From the earth did We create you, and into it will We return you, and from it will We bring you out once again. They said: "We broke not the promise to you, as far as lay in our power: But we were made to carry the weight of the ornaments of the whole people, and we threw them into the fire, and that was what the Samiri suggested. He replied: "I saw what they saw not: So I took a handful of dust from the footprint of the Messenger, and threw it into the calf: Thus did my soul suggest to me." He said: "Get you down, both of you, all together, from the Garden, with enmity one to another: But if, as is sure, there comes to you Guidance from Me, whosoever follows My Guidance, will not lose his way, nor fall into misery. And remember David and Solomon, when they gave judgment in the matter of the field into which the sheep of certain people had strayed by night: We did witness their judgment. And remember her who guarded her chastity: We breathed into her of Our Spirit, and We made her and her son a sign for all peoples. Being true in faith to God, and never assigning partners to Him: If anyone assigns partners to God, is as if he had fallen from heaven and been snatched up by birds, or the wind had swooped like a bird on its prey and thrown him into a far-distant place. Never did We send an apostle or a prophet before you, but, when he framed a desire, Satan threw some vanity into his desire: But God will cancel anything vain that Satan throws in, and God will confirm and establish His Signs: For God is full of Knowledge and Wisdom: That is because God merges night into day, and He merges day into night, and verily it is God Who hears and sees all things. Then We made the sperm into a clot of congealed blood; then of that clot We made a foetus lump; then we made out of that lump bones and clothed the bones with flesh; then we developed out of it another creature. So blessed be God, the best to create! But people have cut off their affair of unity, between them, into sects: Each party rejoices in that which is with itself. He will say: "Be you driven into it with ignominy! And speak you not to Me! Were it not for the grace and mercy of God on you, in this world and the Hereafter, a grievous penalty would have siezed you in that you rushed glibly into this affair. See you not that God makes the clouds move gently, then joins them together, then makes them into a heap? - then will you see rain issue forth from their midst. And He sends down from the sky mountain masses of clouds wherein is hail: He strikes therewith whom He pleases and He turns it away from whom He pleases, the vivid flash of His lightning well-nigh blinds the sight. And when they are cast, bound together into a constricted place therein, they will plead for destruction there and then! Unless he repents, believes, and works righteous deeds, for God will change the evil of such persons into good, and God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful, "Then they will be thrown headlong into the Fire, they and those straying in Evil, Into whose ears they pour hearsay vanities, and most of them are liars. "Now put your hand into your bosom, and it will come forth white without stain or harm: these are among the nine Signs you will take to Pharaoh and his people: For they are a people rebellious in transgression." At length, when they came to a lowly valley of ants, one of the ants said: "O you ants, get into your habitations, lest Solomon and his hosts crush you under foot without knowing it." And if any do evil, their faces will be thrown headlong into the Fire: "Do you receive a reward other than that which you have earned by your deeds?" Truly Pharaoh elated himself in the land and broke up its people into sections, depressing a small group among them: Their sons he slew, but he kept alive their females: For he was indeed a maker of mischief. So We sent this inspiration to the mother of Moses: "Suckle your child, but when you have fears about him, cast him into the river, but fear not nor grieve: For We will restore him to you, and We will make him one of Our apostles." "Move your hand into your bosom, and it will come forth white without stain or harm, and draw your hand close to your side to guard against fear. Those are the two credentials from your Lord to Pharaoh and his Chiefs: For truly they are a people rebellious and wicked." So We siezed him and his hosts, and We flung them into the sea: Now behold what was the end of those who did wrong! It is God Who sends the Winds, and they raise the Clouds: Then does He spread them in the sky as He wills, and break them into fragments, until you see rain-drops issue from the midst thereof: Then when He has made them reach such of his servants as He wills behold, they do rejoice!- See you not that God merges Night into Day and he merges Day into Night; that He has subjected the sun, and the moon to his Law, each running its course for a term appointed; and that God is well-acquainted with all that you do? But He fashioned him in due proportion, and breathed into him something of His Spirit. And He gave you the faculties of hearing and sight and feeling and understanding: little thanks do you give! And those of the People of the Book who aided them - God did take them down from their strongholds and cast terror into their hearts. So that some you slew, and some you made prisoners. He it is Who sends blessings on you, as do His angels, that He may bring you out from the depths of Darkness into Light: And He is Full of Mercy to the Believers. He knows all that goes into the earth, and all that comes out thereof; all that comes down from the sky and all that ascends thereto and He is the Most Merciful, the Oft-Forgiving. But they turned away from God, and We sent against them the Flood released from the dams, and We converted their two garden rows into "gardens" producing bitter fruit, and tamarisks, and some few stunted Lote-trees. Those who strive against Our Signs, to frustrate them, will be given over into Punishment. He merges Night into Day, and he merges Day into Night, and he has subjected the sun and the moon to his Law: Each one runs its course for a term appointed. Such is God your Lord: To Him belongs all Dominion. And those whom you invoke besides Him have not the least power. They said, "Build him a furnace, and throw him into the blazing fire!" Can lead any into temptation concerning God, But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned and heeded not! "Has he made the gods all into one God. Truly this is a wonderful thing!" "When I have fashioned him in due proportion and breathed into him of My Spirit, fall you down in obeisance unto him." Those who eschew Evil, and fall not into its worship, and turn to God in repentance, for them is Good News: So announce the Good News to My Servants, In front of the Fire will they be brought, morning and evening: And the sentence will be on the Day that Judgment will be established: "Cast you the People of Pharaoh into the severest Penalty!" It is He Who has created you from dust then from a sperm-drop, then from a leech-like clot; then does he get you out into the light as a child: Then lets you grow and reach your age of full strength; then lets you become old, though of you there are some who die before; and lets you reach a Term appointed; in order that you may learn wisdom. If, then, they have patience, the Fire will be a home for them! And if they beg to be received into favor, into favor will they not then be received. Those who pervert the Truth in Our Signs are not hidden from Us. Which is better? He that is cast into the Fire, or he that comes safe through, on the Day of Judgment? Do what you will: Verily He sees clearly all that you do. And they make into females angels who themselves serve God. Did they witness their creation? Their evidence will be recorded, and they will be called to account! But sects from among themselves fell into disagreement: Then woe to the wrong-doers, from the Penalty of a Grievous Day! A voice will cry: "Seize you him and drag him into the midst of the Blazing Fire! And We granted them Clear Signs in affairs of Religion: it was only after knowledge had been granted to them that they fell into schisms, through insolent envy among themselves. Verily your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Judgment as to those matters in which they set up differences. "This, because you used to take the Signs of God in jest, and the life of the world deceived you.": From that Day, therefore, they will not be taken out thence, nor will they be received into Grace. It is He Who sent down tranquillity into the hearts of the Believers, that they may add faith to their faith; for to God belong the Forces of the heavens and the earth; and God is Full of Knowledge and Wisdom; And know that among you is God's Messenger. Were he, in many matters, to follow your wishes, you would certainly fall into misfortune: But God has endeared the Faith to you, and has made it beautiful in your hearts, and He has made hateful to you Unbelief, wickedness, and rebellion: Such indeed are those who walk in righteousness; If two parties among the Believers fall into a quarrel, make you peace between them: but if one of them transgresses beyond bounds against the other then fight you all against the one that transgresses until it complies with the command of God; but if it complies then make peace between them with justice and be fair: for God loves those who are fair and just. O mankind! We created you from a single pair of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know each other not that you may despise each other. Verily the most honored of you in the sight of God is he who is the most righteous of you. And God has full knowledge and is well acquainted with all things. The sentence will be: "Throw, throw into Hell every contumacious Rejecter of God!- "Who set up another god beside God. Throw him into a severe penalty." So We took him and his forces, and threw them into the sea; and his was the blame. Those who avoid great sins and shameful deeds, only falling into small faults, verily your Lord is ample in forgiveness. He knows you well when He brings you out of the earth, And when you are hidden in your mothers' wombs. Therefore justify not yourselves: He knows best who it is that guards against evil. And you will be sorted out into three classes. He merges Night into Day, and He merges Day into Night; and He has full knowledge of the secrets of all hearts. He is the One Who sends to His Servant Manifest Signs, that He may lead you from the depths of Darkness into the Light and verily God is to you most kind and Merciful. Those without will call out, "Were we not with you?" The others will reply, "True! But you led yourselves into temptation; you looked forward to our ruin; you doubted God's Promise; and your false desires deceived you; until there issued the Command of God. And the Deceiver deceived you in respect of God. No misfortune can happen on earth or in your souls but is recorded in a decree before We bring it into existence: That is truly easy for God. It is He Who got out the Unbelievers among the People of the Book from their homes at the first gathering of the forces. Little did you think that they would get out: And they thought that their fortresses would defend them from God. But the Wrath of God came to them from quarters from which they little expected it, and cast terror into their hearts, so that they destroyed their dwellings by their own hands and the hands of the Believers, take warning, then, O you with eyes to see! And those who came after them say: "Our Lord! Forgive us, and our brethren who came before us into the Faith, and leave not, in our hearts, rancor or sense of injury against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed Full of Kindness, Most Merciful." The end of both will be that they will go into the Fire, dwelling therein for ever. Such is the reward of the wrong-doers. An Messenger, who rehearses to you the Signs of God containing clear explanations, that he may lead forth those who believe and do righteous deeds from the depths of Darkness into Light. And those who believe in God and work righteousness, He will admit to Gardens beneath which Rivers flow, to dwell therein for ever: God has indeed granted for them a most excellent Provision. And Mary the daughter of 'Imran, who guarded her chastity; and We breathed into her body of Our Spirit; and she testified to the truth of the words of her Lord and of His Revelations, and was one of the devout servants. "Let not a single indigent person break in upon you into the garden this day." "And every time I have called to them, that You might forgive them, they have only thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, grown obstinate, and given themselves up to arrogance. "`And in the End He will return you into the earth, and raise you forth again at the Resurrection? `And we pried into the secrets of heaven; but we found it filled with stern guards and flaming fires. Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! "What led you into Hell Fire?" Those who persecute or draw into temptation the Believers, men and women, and do not turn in repentance, will have the Penalty of Hell: They will have the Penalty of the Burning Fire. Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong into the Pit. And penetrate forthwith into the midst of the foe en-masse; By no means! He will be sure to be thrown into That which Breaks to Pieces, It will be made into a vault over them, The same who whispers into the hearts of Mankind,
